A note from the homeowner -
I snapped up this house nearly 20 years ago while looking for a buy-to-let opportunity in the area. Although I spent a little more than I initially expected, I felt the house was worth it for its size, layout, and, of course, the glorious views from the upper floors overlooking the town and beyond to the Chilterns. I believe I've counted eight church steeples from the top room window! I would have loved to convert and extend the basement into a cool garden flat for myself, but, alas, I never got round to it. However, there's plenty of scope for a future owner to do something special with the space though it works well as it is, of course.
The garden is a delight, and I've enjoyed making it more appealing for the new owners, as it had been a little neglected of late. It's such a pretty space and feels quite special, being fairly secluded with lots of greenery around, yet so close to town.
The neighbours are great and very friendly. There's a bit of an arty/cool vibe around, and overall, an eclectic mix of people live in the area, which I love. I also enjoy walking down to the River Kennet with my dogs, which is only about five minutes away a peaceful walk every time.
Unfortunately, I never got round to living in the property myself, but I really would have liked to. I do hope the new owners enjoy this house and make it a lovely home.
Alex the agent's thoughts -
This four-story Victorian home on Alpine Street is full of character and flexibility, perfect for a variety of needs. Starting at the top, the loft room provides a comfortable double bedroom with lovely views. On the first floor, there's another double bedroom, a single bedroom, and a handy first-floor toilet.
The ground floor features two reception rooms, one of which could easily be used as a fourth bedroom if needed. On the lower ground floor, you'll find a sizable bathroom, a cosy kitchen with space for a small table, a utility area, and a storeroom really handy for extra storage. The kitchen opens onto a small patio area, perfect for a bit of fresh air.
The garden is a real gem; mature, private, and bathed in sunlight, making it an ideal space for relaxing or entertaining. There's also great potential here to add value by converting the lower ground floor into a self-contained garden flat. This would be a fantastic opportunity for rental income or simply to create additional living space.
Overall, this home offers a lot of versatility, whether you're looking to enjoy it as it is or explore the potential to enhance its value. It's a great opportunity for anyone seeking a property with character and plenty of options.
